I specialise in treating all aspects of shoulder and elbow complaints.
The ethos of my practice is to offer patient-centred surgical care. I always consider whether non-operative treatment would be more appropriate prior to considering surgery. I work closely with my physiotherapy team to ensure the best outcomes.
I am also trained to use ultrasound scanning in my outpatient clinics to accurately guide diagnostic and therapeutic injections - I use this resource judiciously to improve diagnostic accuracy and to ensure that I avoid unnecessary surgical interventions on my patients.
Where surgery is appropriate, I have a keen interest in shoulder arthroscopy (keyhole surgery) to ensure cutting edge care and a speedy recovery after surgery. Occasionally, I utilise open surgery with a larger incision such as for shoulder replacement surgery.
Having obtained my medical degree with honours at the University of Leeds, I completed all of my postgraduate training in Yorkshire. In addition to my medical degree I was also awarded a bachelors degree with honours. I completed my higher surgical training in the prestigious South Yorkshire rotation. Following specialist orthopaedic training, I developed my skills in upper limb surgery during two fellowships. These exposed me to the breadth of shoulder and elbow procedures under the tutelage of multiple renowned upper limb surgeons.
Following this, I was appointed as a Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant in the NHS where I have a busy elective practice focusing on all aspects of shoulder and elbow surgery as well as a general Orthopaedic Trauma practice.
I am the hip fracture lead in my Orthopaedic department. This role requires me to ensure that my department provides the best care to our hip fracture patients and that national standards are adhered to. I am also the undergraduate lead for Orthopaedics in my department. This role requires me to oversee the training of Medical Students. I have a keen interest in teaching doctors at all levels and regularly act as faculty on various courses.
In addition to my clinical and management activities, I have published extensively in Orthopaedic journals and regularly present my research at international conferences.
