MB Bch, FRCP (UK)
I qualified in the faculty of medicine, Assiut University, Egypt. Following an initial period of training there, I came to the UK for postgraduate qualifications and training in general medicine. My first training post in geriatric medicine was in Southampton General Hospital in 1989. I then moved to Rotherham District General Hospital, South Yorkshire in August 1990 and worked there until 1996. I acquired more experience at registrar level in geriatric medicine, rheumatology, general medicine, diabetes and endocrinology.
I gained membership of the Royal College of Physicians of London in June 1994. I trained at Sheffield Northern General Hospital for three years where I gained a lot of experience and skills in falls, osteoporosis and orthopaedic medicine. The rest of my training was at Barnsley District General Hospital and Doncaster Royal Infirmary where I gained experience in cardiovascular medicine.
I am currently a consultant physician and geriatrician at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. My main clinical interests include management of cardiac failure, hypertension, arrhythmias and diabetes, particularly in older people.
