Mr Tim Millar

As a consultant I have developed extensive experience in complex hindfoot procedures and where possible use minimally invasive techniques. This would include arthroscopic ankle and subtalar joint fusion, tendoscopies and minimally invasive calcaneal fracture fixation.

I qualified in medicine from the Universities of St Andrews, Scotland and Manchester in 2001.

My interest in orthopaedics was sparked whilst on a medical student elective to Malawi and following this I subsequently commenced basic surgical training in the North West of England with placements at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and the Royal Preston Hospital. This was followed by a period of overseas voluntary work in an orthopaedic tertiary referral centre in the former homeland of the Transkei in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

On my return to the UK I completed further training posts as a junior trauma registrar in Shrewsbury and as a research fellow at Wrightington Hospital where I completed an MSc in Health Science and Practice.

In 2010 I obtained the fellowship in trauma and orthopaedics (FRCS T&O) and was then able to undertake advanced training posts in hip and knee replacement surgery at Wrightington Hospital followed by fellowship level training in foot and ankle surgery at the Royal Bolton Hospital and Wrightington Hospital.

In 2012 I returned to Lancaster to complete specialist training under the watchful eye of Mr Shashi Garg, and during this period conducted research on the outcomes following ankle replacement surgery.

During the final 12 months of training I developed an interest in more complex hindfoot surgery including arthroscopy although I continue with a more general lower limb and trauma practice as a consultant. I was appointed as a consultant in 2013 with Kendal and Lancaster being my NHS bases.

I am deputy clinical lead in trauma and orthopaedics at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay.

I act as an educational supervisor to surgeons in training.
