Virtual consultations:
I am a lower limb and trauma consultant practicing in the North West of England.
I see a wide variety of hip and knee disorders, and I have a particular interest in joint replacement surgery in the younger patient. I perform in excess of 100 primary hip and 100 primary knee replacement procedures per year, and I have particular expertise in partial knee replacement.
In my NHS practice I take on all manner of complex joint replacement surgery including surgery for periprosthetic fractures and revision joint replacements. I am well experienced in arthroscopic (keyhole) knee surgery and anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
I was born and bred in Preston, completing my A levels at Cardinal Newman College and then graduating with Honours from the University of Manchester. I trained in the North West and Nottingham. I became a consultant in March 2007. My NHS and trauma practice is with Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Tony Helm at Spire include:
Orthopaedics
COVID-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service at Spire Fylde Coast Hospital.
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Away from work I am a keen cyclist, cycling over 3,000 miles per year and I challenge myself once per year to an "...in a day" ride, such as Coast to Coast in a day (150 miles), Edinburgh in a day (185 miles), Scotland and Back in a day (213 miles) and London in a day (245 miles). Another sporting pursuit of mine is skiing, and I take one or two trips per year to enjoy the slopes.
I am also a keen musician, and play piano and guitar to keep myself, and occasionally others, entertained. I enjoy spending time with my wife and two children, the older of whom I am pleased to say is following in my footsteps and studying medicine at Manchester University.
