Dr Farid Ghalli

I obtained my MBBCh Feb 1995. I completed higher Specialist Registrar Training in General Medicine and Nephrology completed in 1999. I then got a Master's degree in general medicine (sub-specialty: nephrology) in December 1999. My research was evaluating microalbuminuria as a marker of silent myocardial ischaemia in insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.

I completed my doctorate (MD) thesis in nephrology researching glutathione transferase enzyme as a marker of early renal tubular dysfunction in patients with glomerulonephritis and post - renal transplant. In 2010 I obtained an MRCP(UK) and an MRCP Nephrology in 2015. During the period between 2012 and 2018 I had second higher nephrology and transplantation training in the UK as I worked at the nephrology and renal transplant unit - University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

I have been a consultant nephrologist at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals Sussex Renal Unit since March 2018. I am practicing different aspects of nephrology and dialysis and have a special interest in immunological renal disease glomerulonephritis and vasculitis and CKD - Mineral bone disease.

I am also a member of CKD-MBD and Glomerulonephritis UK clinical study groups. I have special interest in research, publications and medical education and I am an honorary senior clinical lecturer at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. I am a lead of clinical skills material development at BSMS, and also a member of the Academy of medical educators.

I was competitively awarded The Best Award in Innovation in Education 2015 and nominated for the British Medical Journal (BMJ) Clinical Teacher of the year 2016. Also, in 2016 I was awarded the leadership in nephrology education award from the Global Kidney Academy (GKA) and received it in Prague March 2017. I am a member of the faculty of the GlomCon fellowship and the research group to study glomerular disease. Also, I am the training programme director for renal medicine in Kent, Sussex and Surrey Deanery.

I am a member in the Advisory Board of Young Nephrologists Platform programme of the European Renal Association - European Dialysis and Transplant Association ERA-EDTA.

In 2019 I was awarded a Diploma in Transplantation Science from Liverpool University and Fellowship of Royal College of Physicians London (FRCP)
