I grew up in Wales and qualified from Sheffield Medical School in 1992. I obtained my FRCS (London) in 1997. I commenced my highly extensive and sub-specialised neurosurgical training at the Royal London Hospital, before completing my formal Neurosurgical training programme in University Hospital of Wales, with extensive training in both brain and spine surgery.
I completed three long intensive fellowship programmes. The first being in Helsinki, Finland in Neurovascular conditions, microneurosurgery and skull base surgery techniques, followed by completion of the Paediatric neurosurgical fellowship programme in Vancouver, Canada. This was followed by a senior fellowship at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEH), with further experience in skull base surgery and minimally invasive techniques.
I worked as a Consultant Neurosurgeon for several years at QEH Birmingham, covering both general and complex brain and spine surgical disorders – including disc problems, spinal trauma, degenerative spine problems, spinal tumours, congenital spine problems, Chiari malformations, syringomyelia and spinal CSF disorders.
While working in the UK's largest and busiest Neurosurgical unit, I supported the Military Service at QEH, and was much involved in the development of Neuro-Trauma, Neurovascular and Neuro-oncology services.
Following my appointment in 2014 at BSUH NHS Trust, I took up a new consultant position in Sussex Hurstwood Park/Brighton Neurological Centre. I also worked in the NHS department of Neurosurgery at Brighton Hospital between February 2015 and December 2021 before moving purely to the private sector.
I see adults only at Spire Gatwick Park Hospital.
