Virtual consultations:
I practice in all areas of cardiology but with a particular interest in disorders of heart rhythm ie hearts that go too fast or slowly. Patients may present with palpitations, collapse, breathless or just fatigue.
The abnormal heart rhythms are corrected by implantation of devices such as pacemakers and implantable defibrillators or with an electrical study of the heart and ablation (cauterisation) of the source of the problem. I am particularly interested in the treatment of atrial fibrillation, the commonest but most difficult to treat abnormal heart rhythm.
I qualified from the University of Bristol Medical School in 1993 and following junior medical training in the West of England and Australia began specialist cardiology training in London in 1997. I have been at St Bartholomew's Hospital since 2001 initially as a research fellow, then specialist trainee and finally appointed consultant in 2006.
