I am a Consultant Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon with special interest in breast aesthetics, breast diseases and surgical oncology at the Breast Unit in Hillingdon Hospital, London.
As a specialist in oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery, my practice ethos is to ensure optimal oncological clearance of breast cancer with best possible cosmetic outcomes following surgery. I have a tertiary referral practice for complex corrective breast surgery, cosmetic corrections, immediate and delayed breast reconstruction.
I qualified with honours in 1992 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1999. Having spent time in research, looking at the “Effect of Vitamin A and Corticosteroids in wound healing”, I completed my higher specialist training in general surgery in 2009 (South West Thames London rotation) with special interest in breast and reconstructive surgery. I obtained my specialist training at The Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford and The Royal Marsden Hospital, UK. I complemented my training further with an Oncoplastic Fellowship at The Royal Marsden Hospital, Fulham road, London.
My plastic surgery experience includes Senior Residency at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi, India (Tertiary centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery). I have further consolidated my international experience by attending workshops and master classes in breast reconstruction and cosmetic corrective surgery in Germany and Austria.
After completing my oncoplastic fellowship at The Royal Marsden, I took up a substantive position at Colchester University Hospital as a ‘Consultant Breast Surgeon with special interest in Oncoplastic Surgery’. Having worked there for nearly five years establishing the breast oncoplastic service in North Essex, I've now moved to The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Trust with a view to take the breast services forward. I also have a Honorary contract with The Royal Free Hospital NHS Trust.
I have made several presentations at national and international breast meetings, being actively involved with research in intra-operative molecular assessment of sentinel lymph node biopsy. I've published on “Oncological outcomes of Oncoplastic Breast Surgery”, “axillary nodal yields: comparison between primary clearance and completion clearance after SLN biopsy”, axillary anatomy and management of breast cysts.
I am keen to promote the sub-specialty of oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery and remain highly committed to teaching and training. I am a Tutor in MS Oncoplastic Course, East Anglia University.
