"This is a friendly hospital with all required facilities"
I am a consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist who qualified over 20 years ago in my home country - Moldova. Later I confirmed my qualifications in the UK. I have a special interest in the domain of Urogynaecology. The area of my expertise is pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, bladder dysfunction, childbirth injury and chronic pelvic pain.
I provide both general and urogynaecological treatments to patients. This involves problems such as heavy and irregular periods, PCOS, contraceptive advice, sexual difficulties, chronic pelvic and vulvo-vaginal pain, recurrent urinary infections, persistent vaginal discharge, painful and overactive bladder, stress and urgency urinary incontinence, primary and recurrent pelvic prolapse.
I offer general gynaecological treatments: Bartholine cyst operation, laparoscopic treatment for ovarian cysts and endometriosis, sterilisation, hysterosopies, fibroid resections, uterine ablations, myomectomies, hysterectomies (vaginal, open, laparoscopic).
In addition, I offer specialised urogynaecological treatments: conservative and surgical management of bladder, bowel, uterine and vaginal vault prolapse, bladder botox injection, different types of stress incontinence surgery (including laparoscopic), management of childbirth injury and chronic pelvic pain.
I defended a PhD thesis in urogynaecology in Ireland, investigating the impact of first childbearing on the pelvic floor dysfunction. I am still involved in the research activity, which resulted in multiple articles published within specialty journals. I participate in the activity of a special committee, of the International Urogynaecology Association, developing new guidelines and classifications.
I enjoy training and supervising junior doctors in their professional career.
I strive to be at the front edge of modern science and keep up-to-date with the most recent advances in my area of expertise.
I am serving as an elected member of the International Urogynaecology Association's Terminology & Standardization Committee, aiming for international unification of the terms used to describe urogynaecological conditions and their severity.
I also participate in the activity of CHORUS - an International Collaboration for Harmonising Outcomes in Urogynaecology - establishing the minimum outcomes to be reported in research.
I believe in clear and frank communication between the patients and their doctor. A clear explanation, based on strong scientific evidence and shared decision taking is the key to the patient's ultimate satisfaction in my opinion. I am easily approachable and patient in explanation, which helps me to achieve this goal.
I can consult in English, Romanian or Russian, depending on the patients' preferences.

COVID-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service at Spire Harpenden Hospital.
I act as a peer reviewer for many professional journals publishing in my area of expertise (including BJOG, AJOG and International Urogynaecology Journal).
I have authored more than 20 original articles published in the same journals. They are mainly focused on problems related to prolapse, urinary incontinence, childbirth injury and various types of imaging modalities used in visualisation of the pelvic floor.
