Consultant General Surgeon & Specialist Coloproctologist

MBBS, MS, FRCS (Gen Surg)

Specialises in

  • Colon and rectum disease
  • Crohn's disease
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Haemorrhoids
  • Gallstones

I have been a Consultant Surgeon since 2002. I am a specialist in the surgical treatment of all diseases of the colon and rectum: cancer, diverticular, Crohn's and ulcerative colitis. I am an expert in laparoscopic surgery for bowel problems, and manage anorectal problems such as haemorrhoids, fissure, fistula and pilonidal sinus.

As part of general surgery, I treat gallstones and hernias. I perform lower gastro-intestinal endoscopy, colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy, as part of the investigation of bowel symptoms.

My specialist interest is colorectal surgery with specialist expertise in laparoscopic colon and rectum operations.

I participate in the emergency on-call rota at the Lister hospital as part of the general surgery team. I am a faculty member at the Iceni centre in Colchester where I teach laparoscopic colorectal surgery to senior surgical trainees. I have a fellow attached to my surgical team specifically to be trained in laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

When not working I enjoy time on the golf course with my wife and son, or going to watch my daughter performing in her latest school production.

I enjoy snow skiing and the whole family enjoy water-skiing in the summer. I have run the London marathon twice raising £10,000 pounds for a local hospice and a children's charity.
