Specialises in
I have been a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at East and North Herts NHS Trust since 2017. I specialise in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and am trained in the advanced skill of robotic colorectal surgery for bowel conditions. I am one of a small minority of female colorectal surgeons regionally and in the UK.
I perform keyhole robotic and laparoscopic procedures primarily dealing with bowel cancer and other bowel conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and diverticular disease which was also the primary subject of my postgraduate research degree.
I treat anorectal conditions such as haemorrhoids, fistula and Botox® treatment for fissures. I also perform surgery to repair abdominal and groin hernias as well as keyhole surgery for gallstone disease. In addition, I perform diagnostic endoscopic procedures, namely colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy.
I have sub-specialist expertise in robotic colorectal surgery.
I qualified from Nottingham University Medical School and completed higher surgical training in the Northeast Thames region, with a final year in specialty laparoscopic training. During the course of my training I completed my research degree in diverticular disease and epidemiology at King's College, London. In addition, I have worked on design and project management for surgical simulation applications for both educational and theatre work flow settings. Most recently, I completed my robotic training with the support of Intuitive and have developed a largely robotic colorectal resectional practice.
I have been a consultant colorectal surgeon for 6 years and since completing my robotic training 2 years ago, I have performed over 80 colorectal robotic procedures and perform on average, 45 colorectal cancer operations a year. In additional I perform colorectal surgery for Diverticular Disease and Inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohns Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.
I also routinely perform gallbladder and hernia surgery as well as reversal of ileostomy surgery weekly.
I am a faculty member of the CCrISP, ATLS and Basic Surgical Skills courses which forms part of the National Surgical Higher Training Selection Committee.
I am a thoughtful and compassionate person who ensures my patients are comfortable and listened to. As a woman, I understand some conditions are difficult to discuss and I seek to provide a safe environment for these delicate discussions.
