I was first diagnosed at the NHS Hospital in Bedford, as I was concerned about the cancer spreading I was adamant that I wanted an appointment as soon as possible. Unfortunately I was on a long waiting list and many of my appointments were cancelled, so I decided to go through my husband’s insurance.
Bupa put me in touch with Spire Harpenden Hospital. I had never heard of them before, but my experience was so positive from the first phone call I knew this was the choice for my operation. I was able to get a consultation appointment within a week with Miss Deol and used my insurance instead of waiting for the NHS.
I chose to have a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction. It was a difficult decision as the operation is known to be risky, but I wanted to wake up knowing that I still had two breasts.
As soon as I sat down for my first consultation with Miss Deol, she gave me the biggest hug and I knew that I would get the support I needed from her. There was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to choose Miss Deol to go ahead with the procedure.

I am pleased to say that my operation was successful and I was very happy with the results. My nurse Amber, was so supportive and gave me excellent care when I was feeling low, a complete lifesaver!
I’ve been back to the hospital for various other operations since then, and I couldn’t recommend Spire Harpenden Hospital highly enough. The rooms give you your own personal privacy for friends and family to come visit you, everyone at the hospital genuinely cares for you and makes you feel like a person.
Since being cancer free, I’ve re-evaluated the important things in my life. I have reduced my working hours and dedicated more time to my horses. Thank you to Spire Harpenden and Miss Deol who were able to make this possible for me!
