Specialises in
My clinical focus is on the acute management of biliary (gallbladder) pathology, hernias and all major acute and emergency abdominal surgical presentations. An area less developed to date in emergency surgery, I am an advanced laparoscopic surgeon committed to managing emergency patients with keyhole techniques and managing patients where possible in an ambulatory setting.
I have several additional sub-specialty interests which include the surgical management of Hidradenitis Supparitiva and as such I have collaborated closely with my dermatology colleagues to build a bespoke and novel pathway for this difficult and often undervalued disease area within Leeds.
I am focussed on the delivery of sustainable and green options in surgery working hard towards the future net zero Spire Healthcare target. As such I led a Leeds based team to victory in a national competition ‘Green Surgery Challenge’ co-hosted by the Centre for Sustainable Health and Royal College of Surgeons (Eng). Looking at the delivery of net-zero laparoscopic surgery, I am now considered an expert in this field bringing my knowledge to the delivery of surgical techniques across a spectrum of presentations. I work closely with NHSE and other partners in this area and have presented internationally on the subject.
I trained in Liverpool as a post-graduate having completed initially a BSc in Pharmacology. As part of my studies I spent a year working with the pharmaceutical firm, Pfizer. I subsequently pursued surgical training throughout the Yorkshire region specifically focussing on training in Upper gastrointestinal and general surgery. I completed an
research MD focussed on using oncolytic viruses to treat metastatic cancers and I now work as an Emergency General Surgeon in Leeds Teaching Hospitals. I have published widely in a number of areas including in high impact journals and authored a number of book chapters.
I am passionate about training and changing cultures to flatten hierarchy and developing the next generation of surgeons and have worked both locally and in Uganda to deliver a number of laparoscopic simulation courses.
