Virtual consultations:
I am a Consultant Rheumatologist at Spire Hartswood in Brentwood, Essex. I welcome appropriate patients wishing to refer and pay for treatment themselves without the need for a GP letter of referral.
I have been working as a Consultant Rheumatologist since 2008 and have broad experience in the diagnosis of all musculoskeletal rheumatic conditions. My priority as a specialist is to ensure an accurate diagnosis so that I can provide patients with accurate information about their condition and early management.
I have extensive experience in the provision of soft tissue and joint injections for the relief of pain and inflammation and have a particular interest in managing early inflammatory arthritis. I am leading the Early Arthritis Service in my previous NHS Trust.
I was appointed to the Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust in July 2017 as a substantive Consultant Rheumatologist. Before moving to Chelmsford, for nine years I was a substantive Consultant Rheumatologist at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, Durham. I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate study in general medicine in India and came to the UK in 2000. I did my senior house officer training post mainly around London and completed my MRCP in 2002.
I undertook specialty training in rheumatology and general medicine from Oxford Deanery. Following my higher specialist training, I was awarded the certificate of specialist training (CCST) in GIM and Rheumatology from Royal College of Physicians London.
I have a special interest in early arthritis. I have had two posters at the international meetings on early arthritis. Furthermore, I have experience in musculoskeletal ultrasound, which complements my interest in early arthritis.
Medical education is an area in which I am heavily involved. I have been awarded an Associate of the Higher Education Academy by the Royal College of Physicians in 2011. I am involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, GPs and nurses, in addition to my significant contribution for the MRCP examination board. I have an active interest in research and am the principal investigator in three major multicentre clinical trials in the NIHR portfolio, in addition to pharmaceutical sponsored clinical studies.
