BMedSci, MBBS, FRCS(Plast), MD
Availability at Spire Hartswood Hospital: Thursday evenings.
I am a consultant plastic surgeon offering private plastic and cosmetic surgery to patients at Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood, Essex. I have a growing private practice in Essex focusing on cosmetic surgery, in particular cosmetic breast and body re-shaping surgery.
Surgical options include DIEP reconstruction (also known as the DIEP flap). I am also a clinical tutor and lead the new STAARS research group.
I trained at Barts and The London hospitals, gaining the MBBS qualifications as well as an intercalated Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree (BMedSci). I then spent time training as a junior surgeon in London and Essex before completing a two year post-graduate MD. During this time I developed an interest in plastic surgery and was granted entry to the Pan-Thames training programme, spending three years at St Andrew's Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery.
In 2007, I passed the FRCS(Plast) exam and was awarded the Ian MacGregor Gold Medal. In my last year of training, I specialised in microvascular reconstruction of the breast and complex limb injuries at Charing Cross Hospital, before spending time in the STACs Aesthetic Fellowship, learning the fine art of cosmetic surgery, as well as visiting renowned surgeons in New York and Munich.
Since then, I have been fortunate to return to Essex as a consultant plastic surgeon at St Andrew's Centre, Broomfield Hospital, where I specialise in all aspects of reconstructive breast surgery for breast cancer patients.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Mat Griffiths at Spire include:
Cosmetic surgery
Plastic surgery
COVID-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service at Spire Hartswood Hospital.
Royal Society of Medicine
British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons
Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, St Andrews Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery and Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex
I currently reside in rural Essex close to my busy NHS and private practice commitments with three lovely children and an understanding wife. I run/cycle to work in order to keep fit and also enjoy tennis, skiing and mini-triathlons. I play the guitar and am struggling to learn the banjo which I was bought for Christmas!
