I am a Consultant Urological Surgeon offering private urological consultations and surgery. I am a designated pelvic urology surgeon, regularly undertaking complex bladder and prostate surgery for cancer and benign conditions and have taken a lead on introducing enhanced recovery programmes for pelvic surgery. I regularly work in tandem with fellow gynaecologists and colorectal surgeons to perform complex operations.
I have undertaken over 200 radical prostatectomy operations for prostate cancer, 100 radical cystectomy operations for bladder cancer and 200 laparoscopic and open kidney removal operations.
I was the pioneering laparoscopic urology surgeon in my NHS Trust and carried out the first laparoscopic nephrectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy at Harold Wood Hospital in 2003. At my NHS Trust I am the lead clinician for urological cancers and specifically for prostate cancer diagnostics and robotic arm prostatectomy. I am a member of the London Cancer Urology Pathway Board as the lead surgeon for bladder cancer.
In my NHS and private practice, I pride myself in offering a holistic approach to managing my patients, from initial consultation through to discharge. I have an excellent team including my personal assistant, nurse specialists and other colleagues who work to ensure good communication and rapid recovery to normal health for all my patients.
I have a significant interest in urology research and have published over 50 peer reviewed papers. I have also given over 100 national and international presentations. I undertook one of the largest published trials of laser surgery on the prostate "CLasP trial."
I have been the BHRUHT's Urology Tutor, Founding Foundation Programme Director, Post Graduate Deanery Clinical Tutor and the Director of Medical Education. I have been on the FRCS (Urology) Standard Settings Committee for five years. In terms of clinical governance I am an elected member of the Invited Review Mechanism at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, which helps to assess NHS Trusts, private hospitals and individuals who may have issues with good urological care.
I have extensive training in surgery and urology, from the prestigious UK training programmes in Oxford and Bristol. Additionally, I have undertaken training visits to Philadelphia, USA, through a competitive British Urological Foundation Fellowship.
