Spire Hartswood Hospital and the Patient Support Centre raise over £1800 for the Grace O’Malley-Kumar Foundation

17 July 2024

Colleagues in Brentwood, Essex, organised a series of fundraising activities, including bingo and fitness circuits as part of Spire Healthcare’s 2024 Summer charity drive. >

During the multi-day event, colleagues across the business, including at Spire Healthcare’s 39 hospitals in England, Wales and Scotland, undertook a wide variety of activities including walking, cycling and running to raise money.

At Spire Hartswood Hospital, colleagues organised a bingo night at a local venue, with all proceeds going to this great cause.

Meanwhile at the Patient Support Centre, staff organised various fitness activities throughout the week, including a ping pong championship in the local park and a challenging 135km bike ride. The week was concluded with ‘Soul Food Friday’ for a small monetary donation.

Charitable donations are being accepted and can be made to the Grace O’Malley-Kumar Foundation by donating online through the hospital’s JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/page/spire-hartswood-hospital2024

Justin Ash, CEO of Spire Healthcare, said: "I’d like to thank Spire colleagues, and consultants for taking part in our 2024 Summer Charity Drive. It’s inspiring to see so many people giving of their time to raise funds for such a wide range of excellent causes. In addition to working every day to make a positive difference to people’s lives through outstanding personalised care, we at Spire Healthcare also believe in giving back to our local communities, and making a positive contribution to society wherever we can. I am therefore incredibly proud of everyone’s support and efforts to make this year’s fundraising period so successful.”

Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood, Essex, offers fast access to personalised care for a wide range of treatments.

Jo Dean, Hospital Director at Spire Hartswood Hospital said: “Each year Spire Hartswood Hospital selects a charity to support, our charity for 2024 is the Grace O’Malley-Kumar Foundation. This is a charity very close to our hearts due to our connection with the Kumar family. Grace was the loving daughter of Dr Sinead O’Malley and Dr Sanjoy Kumar and brother to James O’Malley-Kumar. Grace was also the niece of Mr Sunil Kumar. There are many of us who have worked with both Dr Sanjoy Kumar and Mr Sunil Kumar for many years, and we know how utterly devastating this has been for their family. I am really proud of all our colleagues for their fundraising efforts and for the support they have shown for this great cause.”
