Massage is the use of kneading of muscles of the body with the hands, this can be performed at varying depths and intensities by a qualified therapist to help relieve tension and stress as well as to break down adhesions in muscle fibres.

Sports massage is not just for sportsmen or women! It can also be used as an adjunct to your normal physiotherapy treatment or simply to relieve muscle tension or treat repetitive strain injuries, which everyone experiences from time to time.

Massage helps to:

  • Prevent injuries
  • Maintain the function of muscles
  • Helps your recovery from intense training
  • Stretches and loosens muscles
  • Improves blood flow
  • Improves movement of lymph and oxygen throughout the body
  • Helps to restore function to injured “soft tissues” (muscles, tendons and ligaments)
  • Removes metabolic waste resulting from exercise and inactivity

Does a massage hurt?

No form of massage should hurt anyone. Tender areas of tension or injury sometimes needs to be handled with some degree of pressure which enables the deep tissue work to break up adhesions in the muscle or scar tissue. Communication between therapist and client is essential.

Treatment can be focused on specific areas, including:

  • Neck and shoulder massage
  • Back massage
  • Leg massage
  • Arm and hand massage
  • Full body massage

Can I bring someone to the session with me?

We are able to provide chaperones should you require. Please inform our reception team when booking your appointment and we will happily arrange this on your behalf.

Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who must remain throughout the treatment.

Do I need to get undressed?

It depends on the area being treated. There is no need to take off all your clothes for a foot and ankle massage; just wear loose trousers which you can pull up over your knees. We endeavour to ensure the modesty and dignity of our clients and use towels where possible to drape across during a treatment, helping you feel relaxed and comfortable.

To get the full benefits out of a full body massage it is recommended you remove your shirt, trousers and socks. You can wear underwear, bra, swimming trunks or swimming costume, whatever you feel most comfortable with. You do not need to reveal any part of your body in any way that makes you feel uncomfortable, we will do our utmost to make you feel comfortable and relaxed.
