I have a broad experience in respiratory medicine which includes assessment and management of conditions including asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease (ILD), pulmonary embolism, chronic cough, lung and pleural cancers.
I started my medical career in Scotland before moving to Yorkshire in 2009 to complete my specialist training in respiratory and general (internal) medicine.
I have been working as a Senior Clinical Lecturer and Consultant in Respiratory Medicine in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire since 2016. I lead the Hull and East Riding Integrated COPD Service and am a member of the asthma team at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
I am the Clinical Lead for the Respiratory Network for the Humber Coast and Vale, covering York and North Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire, Hull and North and North East Lincolnshire. I also chair the Hull and East Riding Respiraotry Education Group.
In addition to my NHS clinical practice, I am actively involved in research as a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Hull York Medical School. I lead and am involved in a range of research studies relating to respiratory medicine with a focus on airways diseases including asthma and COPD as well as ILD and breathlessness. I enjoy spending time in the Yorkshire countryside with my wife Natalie, a town and country planner, and our two children aged eight and 10 years old. I have a keen interest in music, playing the saxophone and flute, and playing sport. During my university years I played rugby union competitively and now enjoy watching international games, supporting my local team and coaching the local under 11s rugby team as an England Rugby Certified Coach.
