I am the Chair in diabetes, endocrinology and metabolism and an Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist in Hull. I received my specialist training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and General (Internal) Medicine, initially in Aberdeen and subsequently with the Yorkshire Deanery. I did my postgraduate research fellowship at the University of Hull with Professor Stephen Atkin's group and was appointed Senior Lecturer in 2009 at the University of Hull. I became a Reader in 2012 and was made a Chair in 2016.

My clinical practice encompasses all aspects of Endocrinology and Diabetes including thyroid, adrenal, pituitary disorders, diabetes and obesity and I've published extensively in these areas. I am actively involved in clinical research, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the American College of Physicians and the Higher Education Academy. I am also a member of the British Endocrine Society, the American Endocrine Society and the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists.
