Specialises in
I was appointed a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in 2017 and am an expert in cataract and lens surgery. As cataract surgery is my sole primary surgical focus, a large portion of my practice involves operating on some of the most complex and challenging cases presenting to York Teaching Hospital.
I specialise in general and emergency ophthalmology with a special interest in cataract surgery. More specifically, I have undergone specific training to offer toric, multifocal and extended depth of focal lens implants to those patients wishing to maximise spectacle independence through cataract surgery.
My second focus is emergency eye care and care for patients with acute, serious eye problems on a weekly basis.
To date, I have performed over 5,000 ophthalmic operations or procedures. I have performed over 3,500 cataract operations in both NHS and private practice.
I have received subspecialty training in corneal, external eye disease and refractive surgery in one of the largest teaching hospitals in Europe (St James' University Teaching Hospital, Leeds, UK).
I hold the sought after CertLRS qualification (Certificate in Laser and Refractive Surgery, awarded by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, 2017), an additional qualification demonstrating my expertise in operating on patients whom have undergone previous laser refractive surgery or those whom would like a degree of spectacle independence following cataract surgery.
I am proud to sit on the national advisory panel for the Royal College of Ophthalmology National Ophthalmology Database of UK Cataract Surgery.
I am the clinical lead for cataract surgery at York Teaching Hospital NHS Trust.
I am a member of the United Kingdom and Ireland society of cataract and refractive surgeons and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
