I am a fully qualified General Surgeon and sub-specialise in Upper Gastrointestinal disorders. I specialise in gallbladder surgery and hernia surgery, both open and keyhole. I also perform diagnostic and therapeutic Upper GI endoscopy (OGD).
I perform the majority of my surgeries with laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and lead the Upper GI physiology MDT which helps treat patients with reflux and other non cancerous disorders of the oesophagus and stomach.
I have performed over 500 gallbladder operations and over 500 hernia operations including inguinal, femoral, umbilical/belly button, and incisional hernias (those from previous surgery). I perform the majority of my groin hernia operations using keyhole surgery but also offer open surgery.
In the NHS, I also perform complex gallbladder surgery including laparoscopic bile duct explorations, anti-reflux and hiatus hernia surgery and surgery for motility disorders (achalasia).
I have been working in Yorkshire since I started my surgical training here in 2010 and as a substantive consultant in Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since 2021.
My secondary interest is in education. This includes patient education, GP education and undergraduate/postgraduate education. I use technology/digitally enhanced methods to ensure I can deliver the best to my audience and am interested in emerging technologies to facilitate this.
In addition to my surgical practice, I am an honorary senior lecturer for the Hull York Medical School. I also teach on various surgical and medical courses including The Royal College of Surgeons: Basic Surgical Skills; Advanced Trauma and Life Support; Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient and The Royal College of Physicians - JAG Endoscopy Training System: Basic Skills in Upper GI Endoscopy; Basic Skills in Upper GI Therapeutic Endoscopy.
