I am an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in hip and knee replacements. I have a special interest in enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). This means that the patients I operate on receive the most up to date anaesthetic techniques to control pain and are able to mobilise quickly and safely after surgery. This results in a lower rate of problems post-operatively and enables patients to be discharged home earlier. I am the lead surgeon for the day case pathway at Spire which allows some patients to go home on the same day as their operation and most other patients to be discharged on the first day after surgery.

I perform the SPAIRE muscle and tendon sparing Hip Replacement which preserves soft tissues and results in an extremely stable hip replacement. This allows patients to return to all activities after hip replacement without restrictions. This is particularly good for active patients who want to return to work and sports and also for patients who have spinal problems who are at higher risk of dislocation following hip replacement. I also offer computer navigated Knee replacement which results in very accurate replacement of the joint and a well balanced knee.

I trained as a doctor and surgeon in Leeds, Yorkshire, and the North East of England. I then undertook specialist training in hip and knee replacement at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Glasgow. Here I trained specifically to perform navigated (computer aided) knee replacement.

I am the Clinical Director for the Orthopaedic Department at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust, the Humber & North Yorkshire ICB Clinical Chair for Orthopaedics and Honorary Lecturer with Hull York Medical School.

I have published several papers, contributed to two best selling orthopaedic textbooks and lectured at national meetings on enhanced recovery.
