Virtual consultations:
I am a Consultant Dermatologist and see patients for a range of issues including eczema and dermatitis, skin cancer, moles and skin tag removal, psoriasis and acne.
Besides my clinical role I have restructured the dermatology service in Hull with emphasis on the development of community clinics, specialist clinics, leg ulcer and lump and bump clinics with a consequential reduction in waiting times. I have a very committed interest in teaching, not only dermatology trainees but also General Practitioners, Physician Associates, nurses and the general public.
I obtained qualifications in Medicine and Dermatology and graduated from the Yorkshire Training Programme with specialist accreditation in Dermatology in 1987. I was appointed as a Consultant in Dermatology at Scunthorpe and Goole in 1995. In 1997 I moved to Hull to develop dermatology services in the hospital and the community. I maintained my links with the South Bank and continued with an NHS clinic at Barton until Virgin Care took over the service.
During the course of my research I have been the recipient of several awards at national and international level, the most prestigious one being the 18th World Congress Dermatology Award, which was awarded for CV/Scientific presentation in New York June 1992. I have also contributed to dermatological literature with over 200 publications in peer reviewed journals with some of these being quoted in the dermatology text books, as world literature references. I have authored text books in Dermatology both for Dermatologists and General Practitioners.
I was the clinical governance lead for dermatology when I was a substantive consultant in Hull, the role ensuring safe and good clinical practice within the NHS Trust.
I came to the UK in 1976 having fully trained and worked as a dermatologist in India. Having obtained higher qualifications in dermatology in India I was awarded the FRCP (London) in May 1999. Most of my research has included basic genetic, biological and therapeutic advances. I have been involved in preparing modules, directing courses and latterly as an examiner in higher specialist dermatology examinations. I have maintained both professional and teaching links with my Medical School in Bombay; providing financial support needed to develop the dermatology department and scholarships for underprivileged students.
