Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital invests £2.1m to expand and improve cardiology services for NHS and private patients

24 January 2024

Spire Healthcare CEO Justin Ash has unveiled the £2.1 million newly upgraded cardiology suite at Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital. The investment into the new cardiology suite provides diagnosis and treatment options for patients with underlying heart conditions allowing patients to be seen in as little as 48 hours with results available quicker than previously possible. Both NHS and private patients will benefit from this new cardiology suite, which will help reduce regional diagnostic and surgical waiting times.

The latest 3-D mapping technology has been installed, enabling cardiologists to scan the patient’s heart in even greater detail than before. This new imaging platform uses two cameras which rotate around the patient while they are lying down: providing simultaneous front and side views of the patient’s anatomy in real-time.  An efficient, accurate and powerful unit, Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital is now one of three hospitals within the UK to be using this technology.

The refurbishment began in August 2023 and is now open, providing a diverse range of tests, scans and procedures performed by our expert consultant cardiologists, cardiac physiologists, and cardiac nurses.

Ceri Morgan, Hospital Director at Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital, said: “At Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital, we are committed to ensuring that patients have fast access to diagnosis and outstanding personalised treatment when they need it.  Investing in state-of-the-art facilities like our new cardiology suite enables us to deliver a wider range of procedures and we are proud to be one of the first private hospitals in the UK to install this equipment”.

Alexis Warren, Diagnostic Imaging Manager at Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital, said: “We are immensely excited with our upgraded cardiology suite, and the installation of the new state-of-the-art technology. It’s not only about equipment, as a brighter and more spacious environment for patients will help them feel at ease. The ability to produce high-quality 3D images of the heart will improve diagnosis for cardiology patients and help surgeons deliver the most appropriate personalised care. The new equipment will ensure we can continue to grow our pain relief procedures too. This is a substantial investment in our department, and we are looking forward to providing an enhanced service to our patients”.
