I have been a consultant cardiologist for 19 years, subspecialising in interventional cardiology including coronary artery disease and heart valve disease. I am recognised as an international expert in the field of transcatheter valve intervention.
I treat patients with all forms of heart disease. My specialist expertise is in coronary artery disease and heart valve disease. I perform coronary angiography. I am recognised as a national and international expert in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), and transcatheter mitral valve repair, and have taught TAVI to doctors across the UK, Europe, the USA, and the rest of the world.
To date I have performed over 10,000 coronary angiograms, over 5000 coronary angioplasty/stent procedures, and over 2000 TAVIs.
I am the Director of the Structural Intervention programme in Leeds.
I have had a number of leadership positions in the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society, including Honorary Secretary between 2016 and 2020, and am currently Chair of the BCIS Structural Heart disease committee.
In addition to my clinical work, I have a major role in research and innovation in the field of interventional cardiology. I was appointed Professor of Interventional Cardiology at the University of Leeds in 2022. I have published around 150 papers in cardiology. I have ensured that Leeds has been at the forefront of innovation in interventional cardiology since my appointment in 2005. Leeds is now recognised as the leading interventional cardiology centre outside London and the South East.

I am happily married with 2 children who have (almost) fled the nest, but I still have my labrador to meet me at the door each day.
My great passion outside work and family is sport. I have had to hang up my rugby boots but am still turning out for Boston Spa 2nd X1 at hockey, running, and playing golf very badly. I am a committed supporter of almost every sport, enjoying cricket at Headingley, and suffering at Elland Road on a regular basis.
