Gastric sleeve surgery: what to expect at Spire Leeds

Spire Leeds has been performing weight loss surgery for just under 30 years. We now undertake among the highest number of weight loss operations of any hospital in the North of England. We were the first private hospital in the North of England to perform Gastric sleeve surgery - an alternative weight loss operation.

We have a team of five bariatric surgeons who all undertake gastric sleeve surgery. We also offer leading plastic and reconstructive surgeons who undertake the body lifting procedures which many gastric sleeve surgery patients choose to have following significant weight loss.

We're able to treat patients with a BMI of up to 100 due to our high dependency unit. You’ll have all the facilities you’d expect from a private hospital, in a clean, comfortable environment.

After your operation, you’ll have expert aftercare from our team of nurses, dietitians and psychologists.

Talking about gastric sleeve surgery

How much does Gastric sleeve surgery (sleeve gastrectomy) cost at Spire Leeds Hospital

It’s a common operation to have done privately, and our inclusive prices and access to payment plans make it easy and more affordable, even if you don’t have medical insurance.

The price shown is the ‘from price’ (ie the minimum cost of the procedure). Please note that for some procedures the actual price you are quoted may vary significantly and can increase depending on your choice of Consultant (who is an independent practitioner and not an employee of Spire). The fees charged by Consultants and Anaesthetists are set independently and are outside the control of Spire. The price may also vary depending on the type of anaesthetic, implant or drug used, and your medical history.

Spire Leeds Hospital can provide you with a single, fixed price for your procedure so there are no surprises. Please read Spire Healthcare's terms and conditions for full details of what’s included and excluded in your fixed price when paying for yourself. Finance options are available through our partner Omni Capital Retail Finance Ltd, 10 Norwich Street, London, EC4A 1BD.

Your consultations

When you come to your first appointment, you'll have full opportunity to discuss your needs in detail with your weight loss consultant surgeon. During your consultation, they'll talk to you about your medical history and will be able to explain:

  • The different options for surgery
  • What’s involved, including the anaesthetic
  • Any risks or complications

There’ll be plenty of time to discuss any questions or concerns. You might find it helpful to think of some questions beforehand and make notes during your consultation.

Prior to your surgery date, we'll arrange for you to have a pre-assessment appointment with our nurse team, our specialist dietitian and, if required, a consultant anaesthetist. You'll be given information all about your forthcoming procedure and have full opportunity to ask questions. We'll undertake tests to confirm you're suitable for the surgery. These tests may include:

  • An electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • Sleep apnoea tests

Once you’re settled, here’s what will happen:

Your operation will take one to two hours and you’ll be with us for one to two days.

Your aftercare and recovery
