Patients at Spire Leeds Hospital are under the care of a specialist consultant from the time of their first appointment. As and when required, they can be referred to a number of different specialists at the hospital who are all experienced in treating patients with cancer. This wider team includes specialists in the following:

Patients having cancer treatment at Spire Leeds are usually referred to an MDT (Multidisciplinary Team) for treatment planning.
The oncologist team consists of five highly experienced consultant oncologists who work at the Bexley Unit, Leeds Trust, Bradford Foundation Trust and Mid Yorkshire Trust aswell as three consultant haematologists and one consultant in palliative care.
The hospital regularly receives referrals from consultants outside of the area and from all over the UK and abroad. The hospital’s chemotherapy service is consultant-led. Patients see a consultant at every review consultation and the oncologist is on 24-hour call for the patient. Members of the hospital’s specialist oncology nursing team, specialist breast care team and lymphoedema nurse specialist and physiotherapists are also closely involved with every step of the patient’s treatment.
Spire Leeds’ team of experienced specialist cancer nurses work closely with our consultant oncologists and consultant surgeons specialising in cancer care to provide patients and their families with practical and emotional support throughout the course of their treatment.
Our nurses have had specialist chemotherapy training and provide:
Full clinical assessment of patients prior to each patient’s individual treatment plan
One-to-one nursing of all patients to ensure intravenous chemotherapy drugs are administered safely
Information on cancer treatment and the disease
Advice on managing the side effects of cancer and chemotherapy
Emotional support for patients and families
Information on, and referral to, local support groups and cancer charities such as Macmillan
Referrals to appropriate other specialist departments such as radiology, dietetics and other consultant specialists
A telephone triage service for patients wanting to come to see a consultant specialist at Spire
A dedicated phone line staffed by nurses
