I have over 20 years of experience in paediatrics. I completed my training in paediatrics with a special interest in paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition (PGHAN). I am currently working as a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist at the University Hospitals of Leicester in the UK.
Before this post in Leicester, I worked as a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and the Royal Victoria Infirmary Newcastle (NHS Trust), which are quaternary and tertiary paediatric gastroenterology referral centres. I also have experience working in a supra-regional liver unit at the Leeds General Infirmary. In addition to this I have a wide range of experience to manage the complex needs of children with chronic illness.
I have expertise in the management of children with recurrent abdominal pain, constipation, long-standing diarrhoea, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, recurrent vomiting, blood in the stool, food intolerance with special expertise in inflammatory bowel diseases (ulcerative colitis/Crohn's disease), coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, eosinophilic oesophagitis, gastritis, gastrointestinal dysmotility and nutrition.
I am JAG accredited (paediatric) to perform gastroscopy (OGD) and colonoscopy in infants and children. I am the trust lead for analysing and reporting pH and pH impedance study in paediatrics for vomiting and gastro-oesophageal reflux.
My clinical practice is evidence-based and children-oriented multidisciplinary approach involving parents in decision-making to provide the best care. I have been involved in developing guidelines for the management of children with gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, gastroenteritis, coeliac disease and inflammatory bowel diseases.
I have actively participated in the recruitment of patients for multicentric randomised controlled trials as a sub-investigator and this has given me the confidence to lead future research projects in keeping with good clinical practice and research governance.
I am also a Training Programme Director for senior paediatric trainees for the East Midland South region at Health Education England.
