MBBS, FRCS, FRCS (Gen surgery), FRCS (Ent)
Following medical qualification from Newcastle Upon Tyne University in 1987, I trained in the Midlands and Australia. I was awarded the prestigious Royal Brisbane Infirmary Otolaryngology Fellowship in 1997 and spent a year there enhancing my otological and rhinological skills in particular.
In 1999 I was appointed to the post of ENT consultant at the University Hospitals of Leicester and in 2003 I was appointed as Clinical Director for head and neck surgical services in the same hospitals.
My practice covers all aspects of ENT but I run specialist clinics for ear disease in adults and children. I have a specialist practice in snoring and use state of art equipment for diagnosis and treatment. I also run specialist clinics in balance as well as nasal allergy/sinusitis.
An audit of my allergy/sinusitis clinic in the NHS has been presented at the Royal Society of Medicine as an example of specialist practice clinics.
I have served on several national committees and am currently Vice President of the Section of Otology at the Royal Society of Medicine. I am also a council member of the British Otology Society and am currently involved in constructing a curriculum of training for future ear surgeons. I am Editor in Chief of "The Otorhinolaryngologist," the premier medical education journal for ENT Surgeons in the UK.
I have extensive experience in nose reshaping procedures also known as rhinoplasty, septoplasty and septorhinoplasty operations. These procedures are sometimes referred to as 'nose jobs'. I have performed these over the last 11 years. I regularly operate on patients with congenital or post traumatic nasal deformities who have varying degrees of functional and cosmetic nasal problems. I attend facial plastic surgery meetings in the USA each year to continue enhancing my skills in nose reshaping surgery. I also have extensive experience in ear reshaping procedures such as pinnaplasty for a variety of ear deformities sometimes referred to as 'bat ears' or 'lop ears'. I have designed an operation to reconstruct the ear canal in patients with extreme problems. I have lectured on this new procedure and others like it, in the UK and internationally.

I am married with three daughters. I play the guitar and piano (both badly) and like windsurfing, squash and golf. I suffer under the load of being a Sunderland AFC supporter and therefore have had little recourse to joy since the FA Cup Final of 1973!
