Specialises in
Graduating from the University of Leicester in 2000, I went on to train in Vascular Surgery in the East Midlands. I undertook research into carotid artery disease and was awarded an MD from the University of Leicester in 2011.
I was twice awarded the prestigious Sol Cohen (Founder’s Prize) by the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland for my work. I was admitted to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England by examination in 2012.
After completing my surgical training in the UK I undertook post-certification training in advanced open and endovascular techniques in Christchurch, New Zealand. I was appointed as a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at the Royal Derby Hospital on my return to the UK and joined the Vascular Surgery team at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester in 2017. There I lead responsibilities for the patient safety, morbidity and mortality procedures and also for undergraduate education. In addition I maintain a keen interest in postgraduate training, not least by teaching and lecturing on a number of national courses. I am an Honorary Lecturer in Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Leicester.
I have a clinical interest in minimally invasive treatments and performed the first percutaneous abdominal aneurysm repair in Leicester. I also maintain my clinical and research interest in the management of carotid disease.
Myself and three fellow vascular surgeons (Mr Robert Davies, Mr Harjeet Rayt, Mr Tryfon Vainas) provide specialist vascular and endovascular services in the private sector at Circulation Clinic. Our team-working model of care allows our patients to benefit from the experience and expertise of four leading vascular surgeons; all complex arterial and venous cases are discussed within our multidisciplinary team (MDT) and managed within a collaborative working environment, including dual consultant operating lists, ensuring patients are offered the best treatment available.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Greg McMahon at Spire include:

I live in North West Leicestershire with my wife Angela and our young daughter, and spend the majority of my spare time embracing family life. I particularly enjoy getting out and exploring the beautiful local countryside with them. At home, I am a keen cook and am constantly looking to expand my culinary repertoire. When the opportunity presents, my wife and I still like to try and sample how the professionals do it too. I also embrace amateur digital photography, especially post-production and graphic design. Having grown up in South East Essex I keep a close eye on my childhood football team, Southend United.
