My particular interests lie with soft tissue injuries relating to sports injury of the knee and the treatment of this using minimally invasive surgery. I regularly see amateur and professional sports people with knee problems and in addition to providing medical support to many small sports clubs, I look after and provide orthopaedic surgical management for the Leicester Tigers Team and Academy, Leicester City FC Team and Academy, Leicestershire County Cricket and Leicester Riders.

I also have a special interest in cartilage implantation, meniscal transplantation and the treatment of younger patients with degenerative knee problems. I manage the latter with modern conservative treatments and surgical treatments.

Although I perform conventional total knee and hip replacement surgery, I have an interest in unicompartmental (partial) knee replacement and other modern techniques for the treatment of degenerative changes of the knee in younger people. I treat difficult patellar disorders, including pain and instability issues and run special clinics for these problems in association with a physiotherapist, receiving referrals from across the East Midlands. In conjunction with a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon, I also run a clinic for children and adolescents with sports injuries and patellar problems.

I qualified from Queens University Belfast Medical School in 1988. After a few years of postgraduate orthopaedic training in Belfast I did a pre-registrar trauma fellowship in Stoke on Trent Hospital, Staffordshire.

I trained in orthopaedic surgery on the Robert Jones and Angus Hunt Hospital Oswestry rotation between 1994 to 1999 and at the concluding period of this rotation, I concentrated my attention on surgery relating to sports injuries. On completion of this rotation I spent a further year in a specialist fellowship training at the Wakefield Orthopaedic and Sports Injury Clinic in Adelaide, Australia, where I focused on minimally invasive knee surgery, sport injuries and joint replacement surgery after which I spent some time in Melbourne working with an eminent knee surgeon. On returning to the United Kingdom, I initially took on a consultant post at Wolverhampton before moving to the University Hospitals of Leicester in August 2002.

I was delighted to be the attending orthopaedic surgeon at the pool games in Leicester for the Rugby World Cup 2015.
