I have been a Consultant in Neurophysiology since 2002. My specialties include Clinical Neurophysiology or Electrodiagnostic Medicine, which is the branch of medicine and a Neurological specialty dealing with the diagnosis of nerve, muscle and brain disorders by way of clinical examination and the use of specialist equipment.
I carry out diagnostic nerve conduction studies and electromyography in almost all regions of the body where this is technically accessible and in all age groups. Other studies include Evoked Potential Studies (EPs) for suspected MS, various types of EEG (electroencephalography) in adults and children for epilepsy. Please note, I do not carry out EEGs at Spire. If you require an EEG, I can see you elsewhere to conduct this test.
I am significantly involved in postgraduate teaching and training in the specialty, locally, regionally and nationally at key roles such as chair of the West Midlands specialty training committee in clinical neurophysiology, a member of the specialist advisory committee in clinical neurophysiology at the Royal College of Physicians, London and chair of the educational committee of British Society of Clinical Neurophysiology.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr NS Mytheen at Spire include:
