I am a Consultant Gynaecologist with a subspecialist in Urogynaecology at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. I am passionate about offering tailored and comprehensive care to meet my patients’ unique needs.
My commitment to women's health extends to addressing a broad spectrum of gynaecological concerns. This includes managing bladder problems, urinary tract infections, post childbirth pelvic floor issues, pelvic pain, period problems, fibroids, managing ovarian cysts, mild to moderate endometriosis, family planning and contraception including coil insertion, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), treating post-menopausal symptoms and hormone replacement therapy.
My surgical interests encompass a wide array of treatments, including vaginal hysterectomy, prolapse repairs, recurrent prolapse surgery, stress urinary incontinence procedures such as autologous fascial sling and Bulkamid, Botulinum toxin to bladder for overactive bladder, hysteroscopy, endometrial ablation, insertion of coil, laparoscopic surgery (keyhole surgery), hysterectomy, removal of ovaries (oophorectomy)/adnexal surgery.
The cornerstone of my practice is a commitment to patient-centred care. I am deeply passionate about women's health and firmly believe in promoting active patient participation through shared decision-making and ensuring that their voice and concerns are integral to their healthcare journey.
I completed my specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology in the West Midlands. During my training, I developed a keen interest in urogynaecology, a field dedicated to the complexities of the female pelvic floor and completed an advanced training module in urogynaecology.
To refine my knowledge and skills, I undertook a clinical research fellowship in urogynaecology at the world-renowned Imperial College in London. My journey of specialisation continued with a comprehensive three-year subspecialist training at Singleton Hospital, Swansea. This intensive training exposed me to the latest advancements in urogynaecology. This allowed me to delve deep into the complex and nuanced aspects of urogynaecology. I also hold a postgraduate certificate in gynaecology ultrasound, which enhances my diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
I am a strong advocate of a multidisciplinary approach in treating complex urogynaecological disorders. Drawing from my experience as the urogynaecology multidisciplinary team (MDT) lead and chair of the gynaecology guideline and audit committee in my NHS role, I regularly collaborate with continence nurses, physiotherapists, and pain management teams to ensure that my patients receive holistic and personalised care.
Beyond the walls of my practice, I have actively engaged in community outreach programmes such as volunteering at the fistula camp in Kitovu, Uganda, and conducting public lectures in India to empower women with knowledge about their own health.
My dedication to advancing women's health is further reflected in my contributions to research and education. I have authored over 15 scientific papers and have had the privilege of presenting my research findings at national and international meetings. I also chair the audit committee of the British Society of Urogynaecology.
My efforts have been recognised with awards, including the winner of the Best Higher Trainee Award and the trainee prize in the 23rd European Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Glasgow, UK.
