Specialises in
Virtual consultations:
I am currently a Consultant Ophthalmologist at The Birmingham and Midlands Eye Centre. This is the second-largest eye hospital in the UK and is a dedicated teaching hospital for medical students and ophthalmologists in training. I have a large tertiary referral base with patients referred from all over the country.
I accept specialist referral for the following treatments: general ophthalmology, intravitreal Lucentis and Avastin injections for macular degeneration, vein occlusions, diabetic retinopathy, modern cataract surgery with multifocal and accommodative implants, retinal laser treatment and vitreoretinal diseases and surgery: retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes and ocular trauma.
I can also place premium multifocal intraocular lenses (IOL) in your eye during the cataract surgery (instead of the standard monofocal IOL). There are different types of multifocal IOL but essentially, they allow you to have good near and distance vision, without glasses. These IOL's are appropriate for patients who wish to reduce spectacle dependence as a lifestyle change or for specific purposes ie golf. Your requirements can be discussed with me at your initial consultation and should you wish to proceed to treatment, I will help you in deciding the best IOL option for your eyes.
I obtained my Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 1994. I then completed my registrar training in ophthalmology at The Birmingham and Midlands Eye Centre (BMEC) and my training in vitreoretinal surgery at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. I undertook an Observership at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore in 2001, to study new surgical techniques.
I have presented at international conferences and have published original research papers in prestigious medical journals. I have also been the Chief Investigator / Principal Investigator for clinical trials studying new drugs for retinal diseases.
I obtained his MBA with Distinction from the Aston Business School in 2010. Since 2010 I have held senior management roles including Clinical Director and Group Director at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre and Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust.
