I am an Orthopaedic Consultant specialising in all conditions that cause hip and groin pain including the challenging area of young and active patients with arthritis of the hip. I am proficient in all the clinical and surgical aspects of the specialist field of young adult hip surgery. This includes femoral and acetabular osteotomies (both periacetabular osteotomy and triple pelvic osteotomy), hip arthroscopy, resurfacing, total hip replacement, robotic hip replacements and revision hip replacement.
I graduated from Manchester medical school where I developed my interest in surgery. I then moved to Birmingham to complete my general surgical and specialist orthopaedic training and train under renowned surgeons such as Mr O’Hara and Mr Treacy. During this time, I developed a specialist interest in conditions affecting the young adult hip. On completion of my training, I spent a year of fellowship in Sydney with one of the world leaders in hip surgery in young patients, Dr Solomon. I was successfully awarded the European Travelling fellowship by the British Hip Society and spent attachments with other world leaders in young adult hip surgery including Dr O’Donnell (Melbourne, Australia), Dr Young (Melbourne, Australia), Dr Beck (Lucerne, Switzerland), and Dr Leunig (Zurich, Switzerland). I also worked as a consultant in hip preservation alongside Professor Griffin, a world leader in hip arthroscopy techniques, before returning to take up a consultant practice in Birmingham with an exclusive practice in hip surgery.
Early in my surgical career, I was awarded the esteemed ‘RH Sage’ Award for the best surgical trainee of the year, this then led on to me being awarded the first ever-large research bursary from the British Hip Society leading to a number of landmark research papers to be published in the field. I was also invited to lecture at international meetings in North America, Europe and Australia – sharing the results of the research I completed with many other orthopaedic surgeons.
