Currently, I am Lead Cancer Clinician for Heart of England Foundation Trust incorporating Good Hope Hospital. I am also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Birmingham University.
I trained at Cambridge University and the Royal London Hospital, and before being appointed to Good Hope, was a lecturer in surgery at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. I was appointed a Hunterian Professor by the Royal College of Surgeons in 1998 for my research into colonic flora and inflammatory bowel disease. In 2000 I passed the European sub-specialty exam in coloproctology (EBSQ).
My interest and expertise lies in diagnosing and treating diseases of the colon, rectum and anus. I have developed a sub-interest in sacral nerve stimulation and other treatments for faecal incontinence. I have published extensively in the field of colorectal disease.
