I am a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Russells Hall Hospital in the West Midlands. My specialist area of interest includes laparoscopic surgery and laser surgery for prostate and stones. During basic surgical training, I developed an interest in the field of urology. I completed higher specialty training in laparoscopic surgery and laser treatment for stone and prostate enlargement in the West Midlands. I achieved a fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Urol) and European Board of Urology (FEBU).
In addition to laparoscopic and laser procedures, my clinical practice includes core urological procedures including management of recurrent urinary tract infections, diagnosis and management of blood in the water (haematuria), raised PSA, and bothersome lower urinary tract symptoms including difficulty in passing water or increased frequency. I also manage erectile dysfunction, tight foreskin, epididymal cysts, fluid around the testes (hydrocoele) and vasectomy for contraception.
Day case diagnostic procedures include the telescopic examination of the bladder (flexible cystoscopy), transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy, urodynamics and flow test. I specialise in the management of overactive bladder including Botox® injections into the bladder under local or general anaesthetic. I perform laparoscopic/ microsurgical repair of dilated veins around testis (varicocele).
I have completed various specialist courses in Europe and the USA to enhance my skills in laparoscopic and laser procedures. I have an established Laparoscopic Service in Urology at Russells Hall Hospital with a high turnover.
I am an audit lead in the Department of Urology at Russells Hall Hospital. I strongly believe in quality and safety in the delivery of healthcare and I ensure that this is achieved through leadership in audit and governance. I am Lead in Laparoscopic Urological Surgery.
I am actively involved in teaching and training of medical students. I contribute towards the training of medical and surgical staff in the developing world.
I strongly believe in high standards of care delivered with care and compassion. This is my work ethic both in the NHS and the private sector. I am keen to educate individuals about their health conditions and treatments available. Education about one's health condition helps to understand the condition better which in turn leads to a better understanding of the pros and cons involved in various treatment options available. I participate in national and international scientific meetings on a regular basis and keep myself up to date with the latest discoveries in the field of urology. This allows me to ensure that the best treatment options are available to the individuals I treat and care for.
