I have been a Consultant Cardiologist since the year 2000 and trained at the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals. Since 2010, my NHS base has been at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

My special interests are heart failure, cardiomyopathies, cardiac rhythm disorders (arrhythmias) and cardiac imaging. I have extensive experience in general cardiology and can treat patients with conditions such as angina, heart attacks, hypertension and raised cholesterol. I also specialise in cardiac imaging, including echocardiography, cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (cardiac MRI), and cardiac computed tomography (cardiac CT).

I am a pioneer of cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) in the UK, specialised pacemakers for heart failure. I am past President of the British Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance and have been a clinical advisor to the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) on the national guidelines for Drug Therapy and Cardiac Device Therapy in Heart Failure.

I am Professor of Cardiology at Aston University Medical School, Birmingham. I lead several research teams, including research on laser applications for medical treatments, cardiac devices, imaging, electrophysiology (rhythm disorders), cardiomyopathies, heart failure and clinical outcomes. I have published over 400 research papers/abstracts and presented over 300 lectures.
