Riding horses is my passion and I ride competitively (as an amateur) to a reasonably high standard. Pain in my hip, due to a deformed hip since my teenage years, was becoming impossible to manage with standard pain relief and so affecting my enjoyment as well as my effectiveness.

A friend of mine is a professional rider and he had a total hip replacement a few years ago with Mr Selzer and he recommended that I should have a consultation with him. He recommended using the Mako robot.

Recovery has been really good with virtually no pain from the hip itself. I now have two legs the same length (my left leg was nearly an inch shorter before surgery). Having to sleep on my back was a little uncomfortable initially but now I'm able to sleep normally. The scar itself is healing well.

Movement is good. I can walk well with one crutch and stairs are no problem. I have started to drive an automatic car again. I am on no painkillers at all (since approximately three weeks post-surgery) and have almost no pain at all from the hip, the only “soreness” is the site of the incision/bruising and some swelling. I am aiming to get back on a horse around Christmas/New Year but Mr Selzer hasn’t given me permission yet.
