I am a consultant cardiologist with expertise in managing adult patients with heart rhythm problems, that might present with palpitations, irregular heartbeats, heart racing, dizziness, blackouts, breathlessness, and fatigue.
I am one of a few cardiologists in the region performing potentially curative catheter ablation (including Atrial Fibrillation, Flutter and SVT) and implanting complex pacemaker/defibrillators. A video about me is available on my website: https://drluther.co.uk/
I perform a high volume of cardiac ablation procedures each year (~150 procedures), and am one of the highest volume operators in complex procedures such as VT ablation in the country, for which I have a national reputation.
I have won clinical excellence awards for each year I have been in practice, and a national IWantGreatCare certificate of excellence in recognition of consistently outstanding patient feedback. I’ve been a speaker for the “Arrythmia Alliance” and “A-Fib Association” patient education days. I am well known Cardiologist in the UK, having designed the cardiology education website “cardiowebinar.com”, that was a finalist in the HSJ partnership “best educational programme in the NHS”.
I graduated in medicine in London, with distinctions in all phases of medical school. I studied heart rhythm management at the prestigious Hammersmith/St Mary’s Hospitals, where I achieved full certification as a specialist in cardiac electrophysiology and cardiac devices by the European Heart Rhythm Association. I have a PhD and multiple publications and prizes in the field, and lead investigator on a multicentre ablation trial.
My NHS practice is based at the Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital (LHCH), one of the largest and highest volume specialist cardiac centres in the UK, where I see patients referred to me from across the North-West of England, North Wales and more. I am the Associate Chief Clinical Information Officer in Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, driving the trusts digital aspirations to improve cardiology care.
