I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in shoulder and elbow surgery. I specialise in both arthroscopic (keyhole) and open surgery of the shoulder and elbow treating both elective shoulder and elbow problems as well as injuries and fractures of the shoulder and elbow. I also undertake carpal tunnel releases.
I undertook my basic surgical training in the Manchester area and Specialist Registrar training on the North West Rotation. During my Specialist Registrar training I gained a diploma in Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Technology (Dundee University, passed with Merit). After passing the FRCS (Tr & Orth) exam in 2006, and becoming a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England, I specialised in Upper Limb Surgery by undertaking three fellowship posts. The Fellowship posts in Wrightington Hospital and The University of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals (Preston and Chorley) were completed prior to the completion of my training and award of Certificate of Completion of Training leading to entrance to General Medical Council’s Specialist Register.
I delayed taking up a consultant post by undertaking Peter Brownson’s fellowship within The Liverpool Upper Limb Unit and was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust in July 2009, taking up a post as a Specialist Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon within the Liverpool Upper limb Unit.
I have been working with the team at Spire Liverpool since September 2009, maintaining active research interests looking into a variety of shoulder and elbow conditions having published in peer reviewed journals. I am also a course director of the Liverpool Masterclasses in Shoulder Surgery.
I am an AO instructor and the editor of the shoulder section of the Ministry of Justices Training Programme for Medical Experts. I actively participate in the training of junior doctors, allied healthcare professionals and consultant colleagues.

I am married with three children so am constantly on the go with children's activities ranging from rugby and football to gymnastics. When not working I am partial to a glass of red wine. At the weekends when not ferrying children to parties or activities I tend to be found knee deep in gardening.
