I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and lead clinician for glaucoma at St Paul’s Eye Unit, Royal Liverpool University Hospital and provide a tertiary referral service for glaucoma for the Northwest. I am a member of the Liverpool Eye Clinic based at Spire Liverpool Hospital.
I have more than 14 years’ experience as a consultant ophthalmic surgeon and specialise in the diagnosis and management of all forms of glaucoma. I have expertise in a range of surgical procedures for glaucoma including non-penetrating glaucoma surgery (viscocanalostomy/deep sclerectomy), trabeculectomy, insertion of aqueous shunts (Paul glaucoma implant and Ahmed glaucoma valve) and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) including insertion of iStent and Hydrus implant.
To date I have completed over 1,200 glaucoma surgeries in my NHS and private practice. I am an experienced cataract surgeon and perform routine and complex cataract surgery (phacoemulsification) including cataract surgery combined with glaucoma surgery (including MIGS). I also provide general ophthalmic care.
My initial medical and ophthalmology training was from the University of Rajasthan, India. Subsequent training in ophthalmology was at St Paul’s Eye Unit, Royal Liverpool University Hospital, one of the centres pioneering in non-penetrating glaucoma surgery in the UK.
I was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist in 2010 and have been actively involved in both clinical and basic science research around understanding the pathogenesis of glaucoma. I have published and presented my work both nationally and internationally.
I am also the lead clinician for glaucoma and provide a tertiary referral service for glaucoma for the North West.
