Dr Dev Pyne

Consultant Rheumatologist

MA, MBBS (Hons), FRCP

I graduated from Cambridge University (preclinical) and Barts and The Royal London Medical School (clinical) with a Distinction. I undertook my junior doctor training in London and gained my consultant CCST qualifications in both Rheumatology and General Medicine.

I was awarded the British Society of Rheumatology Travelling Fellowship in 2003. Subsequently in 2004, I attained overseas experience in Australia in Rheumatology, Neurology and Renal Medicine, equipping me to specialise in multisystem problems. I have had Specialist Joint/Tendon Injection Training at the Institute of Anatomy in Munich. I was additionally trained in acupuncture at The Royal Homeopathic Hospital in 2001 and I am certified by the British Medical Acupuncture Society. I have been involved in Sports and Exercise at Barts and the Royal London since 2001 and I'm currently the clinical lead at Barts Health.

I have published literature on rheumatic disease, acupuncture and joint injections in leading medical journals including Rheumatology and the British Journal of Sports Medicine. I have also contributed the rheumatology content to the popular international medical student textbook 'Medical Management and Therapeutics' by Kumar and Clark. I run regular joint examination/injection courses for GPs and allied health professionals and I'm an examiner for the University of London MBBS medical degree. I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of London, QMUL for Rheumatology and Sports Medicine.

I lead the second largest rheumatology NHS service in the country as the Head of Rheumatology for Barts, Royal London, Newham, Mile End and Whipps Cross Hospitals.
