Specialises in
Virtual consultations:
I am a consultant paediatric GI surgeon and urologist at Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood and Spire London East Hospital in Redbridge. Many children may have both gastro-intestinal and urinary disorders, and my range of specialisation allows me to treat both conditions.
In my career as a Consultant of over 21 years duration, I would have done over 2,000 operations in each of the following conditions - circumcisions, hernias, undescended testes, hydrocoeles, etc. In hypospadias, particularly the most difficult subset - scrotal hypospadias, I presented my data at the BAPU meeting in Cambridge in 2015 and may have one of the largest single surgeon series in the country.
I trained in paediatric surgery at Nottingham and the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond Street, London. In 1995, at the age of 33, I was appointed to the Royal London Hospital as a consultant. My research thesis on 'DNA, ploidy in Wilms' tumour' remains the largest study published on the subject to date. I have also described a new technique for performing umbilical pyloromyotomy. The technique has been published in the European Journal of Paediatric-Surgery, 8:81-2, 1998, and over 90 cases have been done so far.
I am of the generation where we were dual trained - I practice both paediatric gastro-intestinal surgery and paediatric urology. One of my special interests is paediatric urology and I am in charge of managing infants with antenatally diagnosed hydronephrosis. A new protocol was designed in 1995 to investigate these children and the results were published in the European Journal Paediatric-Surgery, 1999, 9:303-6. The most common referrals to my clinic include children with severe constipation, UTI (urine infection), tight foreskins requiring circumcision, undescended testes, wetting problems, hernias, hydroceles, lumps and bumps, abdominal pain, vomiting and gastric reflux etc.
