Specialises in

  • Cataract surgery including premium lenses
  • Glaucoma treatment
  • General ophthalmology
  • Minimally invasive glaucoma surgery
  • Eyelid cyst surgery

I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at King's College Hospital, one of the most prestigious teaching hospitals in London, and specialise in glaucoma and cataract surgery. I specialise in the medical and surgical management of all types of adult glaucoma, including cutting edge minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, trabeculectomy and aqueous shunt devices, glaucoma revision surgery and complex cataract surgery.

I am a Reader (Associate Professor) in Ophthalmology, Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine at King’s College London and an internationally recognised expert in my field.

I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) and a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSEd). I am also a member of the European Glaucoma Society (EGS) and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS). I am the recipient of multiple national and international awards, including the Fight for Sight New Lecturer Award 2016 and NHS Clinical Excellence Awards.

My cataract complication rate is less than 0.5 per cent, which is way below the national average, despite the complexity of the operations I perform. I also offer premium intraocular lenses for my cataract patients, including toric lenses to correct astigmatism and multifocal lenses to reduce spectacle dependence for near and distance.

In addition to my clinical work, I have a passion for translational clinical research and I am currently the co-Chief Investigator for a large multicentre randomised clinical trial on the role of nicotinamide to improve mitochondrial function and delay glaucoma progression (NAMinG trial) funded by a prestigious and highly competitive £2.0mil NIHR Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation (EME) Programme grant. I have served as a Member of the European Glaucoma Panel IV and Mentoring Programme and I am a regular examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Based on my innovative PhD work in glaucoma at University College London and my MSc by Research at St Peter’s College, University of Oxford I have international expertise in cellular bioenergetics in glaucoma and I have served as the Principal Investigator at King’s College for multiple glaucoma clinical trials to investigate novel glaucoma treatments (intracameral SR bimatoprost, Rho-kinase inhibitors), evaluate emerging biomarkers for glaucoma and understand the molecular mechanisms influencing the outcome of glaucoma filtration surgery.
