Spire Roding Hospital brings 3D Imaging for Breasts to Essex
15 June 2016
The Spire Roding Hospital is delighted to announce the launch of its renewed One Stop Breast Clinic, which offers a comprehensive and thorough screening to patients with the use of gold standard equipment making the best possible assessment of a breast condition in the shortest possible time.
At the beginning of this year Spire Roding Hospital invested in a brand new state of the art Digital Mammography Machine complete with latest technology for 3D breast imaging also known as Tomosynthesis.
3D Breast imaging is the latest in screening for breast cancer detection and diagnosis, especially useful for younger women who can often have denser breast tissue. The Mammomat Inspiration Prime machine produces images which are highly sensitive thus giving clearer results as well as increasing the detection rate, as it detects 43% more breast cancers than traditional mammography. The traditional 2D imaging decreases in sensitivity when imaging denser breasts, breast tissue can also overlap which could mean that normal tissue may mimic a lesion or lesions may be hidden. 3D Breast imaging can help reduce these challenges as well as having the potential to replace the need for other invasive procedures such as biopsies.
3D breast imaging improves outcomes and reduces the potential of patients being called back which can cause anxiety at a worrying time.
Our new Mammomat Inspiration Prime also enables us to carry out the stereotactic biopsy, this is a type of breast imaging using low-dose x-rays which help locate a breast lump or abnormality. A tissue sample is removed for examination under a microscope, it is a fast and accurate procedure which is less invasive than surgical biopsy, and also leaves little to no scarring.
The Spire Roding One Stop Breast Clinic is open to all patients who have breast concerns, both male and female, with inclusive, transparent packages as well as a comprehensive team of specialist breast surgeons and compassionate, highly experienced radiologists, mammographers and nursing staff.
