MSc, MCSP, HCPC
"Spire Manchester Hospital is the perfect destination for an individual’s Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation needs with the elite level facilities and high level Physiotherapy and sports medicine knowledge that is available."
I qualified in Physiotherapy from MMU in 2007 where I went on to work both in the NHS and private settings gaining a broad range of experience in all core areas of physiotherapy. In 2010 I then went on to specialise in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and then attained an MSc from MMU in Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 2012. I then combined this musculoskeletal role with a period of leading a rheumatology physiotherapy team from 2012 to 2014. Following this I completed two specialist year long placements in both lower limb and upper limb orthopaedics respectively, whilst alongside this achieving a Pg. Cert. in lower limb trauma and orthopaedics from Salford University in 2015.
I have a keen interest in ACL injury management and lower limb rehabilitation having focused my MSc dissertation around accelerated rehabilitation protocols following ACL reconstructive surgery. I have also expanded my skill set into the field of strength and conditioning, devising strength programmes for both the public and high level athletes.
From 2012 to 2020 I provided physiotherapy services to Manchester United Academy teams. Working with elite athletes; I have developed a high level of expertise in pitch side intervention, sports injury management and sport specific rehabilitation. I have also worked with The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) providing expert support and physiotherapy services to its members. Working with elite footballers has enhanced my scope of practice in the management of sports injury and with access to state of the art facilities in my role at Spire Manchester, I have seen vast improvements in the rehabilitation outcomes following both injury and orthopaedic surgery.
At Spire Manchester I have supported a national research project in the UK Full Randomised Controlled Trial of Arthroscopic Surgery for Hip Impingement versus best conventional (FASHION trial: studying hip impingement), being the named Physiotherapist at the site delivering Personalised Hip Therapy (PHT) programmes in the study. I am committed to continued learning and development and I regularly attend both national and international conferences focusing on advances in lower limb rehabilitation and advancing MSK practice.
I have a keen interest in extracorporeal shockwave therapy, with our service at Manchester now providing a solution for chronic injuries such as plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy. This has led to Spire Manchester being recognised as a specialist shockwave therapy centre playing host to annual shockwave training events.
I am a recognised Physiotherapist with BUPA and all other major health insurers.
As well as practicing at Spire Manchester Hospital I am also the Head of Department for Physiotherapy, whilst also supporting the National Spire Physiotherapy network.
