MA BM BCh FRCS (neurosurg.)
Specialises in
I am a Consultant Neurosurgeon with subspecialty interests in spinal surgery, including tumours. I have a particular expertise in neck conditions including neck and arm pain, disc prolapse, cervical fusion and cervical disc replacement. I commonly perform operations for lumbar disc prolapse and spinal stenosis.
I believe in a multidisciplinary approach to spinal problems. Surgery can often be avoided and, where it is necessary, should be done in the safest and least invasive way possible. The development of navigated spinal surgery and use of intraoperative spinal cord monitoring for spinal decompression surgery are two of the patient safety advances that I have been developing recently in Manchester.
I am committed to surgical education through training fellowships and surgeon instructional courses and to clinical research into spinal disorders. I am the subspecialty lead of the busiest spinal neurosurgery unit in the UK and Clinical Chair of the North West Regional Spinal Network.
