Specialises in
I have been a Consultant Gynaecologist and Laparoscopic Surgeon with over 30 years experience in the specialty. I have a special interest in the management of Endometriosis and early diagnosis and management of Gynaecological cancers including abnormal smears, abnormal uterine bleeding, fibroids and ovarian cysts and use one stop clinics whenever possible.
I am a BSGE accredited endometriosis surgeon with expertise in conventional, Laparoscopic and Robotic surgery and provide minimal access surgical solutions for a variety of gynaecological conditions.
I believe in a patient cantered, holistic approach with joint decision making taking into account individual patient circumstances.
One stop clinics, with scanning, ambulatory hysteroscopy, colposcopy and minimally invasive procedures including cutting edge technology such as Da Vinci Robotic surgery enables me to provide rapid resolution of women's health problems with rapid return to normal activities.
With over six years experience in Da Vinci Robotic surgery after pioneering its use in Manchester for complex gynaecological conditions such as fibroids, severe endometriosis, ovarian cysts, womb cancer and women with raised BMI, I am able to offer this along side conventional laparoscopic surgery and open surgery to enhance patient recovery and rapid return to normal activities.
I have performed over 2,000 hysterectomies and complex gynaecological operations, the vast majority of these via minimal access surgery. With over 350 Da Vinci Robotic procedures for hysterectomy, fibroids and endometriosis.
I was the clinical director of the Division of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust from 2017 till 2021 leading the division at the time of Covid and established the trust reputation as a centre for minimal access surgery and a training centre for budding gynaecological surgeons.
Over that last 15 years at SFT, I have had the opportunity to establish the hospital's reputation as a leading provider of minimally invasive surgery and pioneered the use of Da Vinci Robotic surgery for complex benign Genealogical and Gynaecological surgery in Greater Manchester including commencing a Robotic surgery fellowship.
I have a keen interest in training junior surgeons and established consultants in minimal access surgery and travel internationally to teach these techniques.
Obtained BSGE accreditation for Endometriosis service as a tertiary treatment centre in 2013 and led this service from its inception and introduced Robotic surgery for treatment of severe endometriosis in 2018.
Over the last 12 years I have led the Gynaecological Cancer service increasing the minimal access surgery to 90% and has been nationally recognised for shortening length of post operative stay and for providing Robotic surgery for women with endometrial cancer who have BMI over 40 enhancing patient recovery.
